PlanetData supports AI Bootcamp 2011

The bootcamp is an international event which consists of 10 days of intensive training (lectures, practical and lab sessions) designed for Masters level students, researchers and lecturers interested in upgrading their knowledge and skills in the areas of Machine Learning and ACTIVE. This workshop aims at developing participants scientific skills to enable them to collaborate on research in these areas.

The summer school was co-located with the Advance Information Technology Institute - Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence (AITI-KACE) in Accra, Ghana, on February 14-22, 2011.

2 persons from PlanetData Consortium has joined the AI Bootcamp and being the representative from their institutions. The topic of Semantic Technologies: Origins, Linked Data and Beyond was introduced by Barry Norton (KIT) and Text Mining and Link Analysis for Web and Semantic Web was talked by Marko Grobelnik (IJS).

Barry Norton has given an introduction to the semantic technologies that are applied in many of the approaches presented in the bootcamp. The emphasis is on the technologies applied in Linked Data and in associated lightweight APIs and services. Particular attention is paid to aspects relevant to the developing world, such as internationalisation and open datasets. As well as the principles used in exposing datasets as Linked Data, an introduction is given to developing notion of Linked Service, and how the advantages of semantic technologies can be so extended.
