Financial Information Observation System (FIOS) - XBRL Challenge
Supported by PlanetData, Andreas Harth and Benedikt Kämpgen from AIFB, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany, have been successful conducting and developing a tool called FIOS (Financial Information Observation System) for XBRL Challenge. XBRL Challenge is a contest that invites participants to contribute open source analytical applications for investors that leverage corporate XBRL data. XBRL is a language for the electronic communication of business and financial data which is revolutionising business reporting around the world. The work was a result of collaboration between AIFB, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany and DERI, National University of Ireland, Galway
FIOS provides a web-based Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) interface for multi-company analysis over an integrated dataset, consisting of XBRL data from the SEC and the FFIEC as well as open web data from Wikipedia/DBpedia and Freebase. They have made available a screencast demonstrating a query in FIOS via YouTube. They have also made a demonstration of FIOS available on the web. The FIOS Saiku Demo can be accessed using username "b"
FIOS system and the olap4ld application will still be developed further.
